Of Montreal Prep New Album
The glam folks are at it again. Of Montreal’s brainchild, Kevin Barnes, is currently ready to start working on their new record tentatively titled False Priests or The Controller Sphere (They haven’t decided yet). This time around Barnes hands the recording control over to someone else which he hasn’t done in years. Infamous songwriter Jon Brion is set to work with Barnes on 16 new tracks starting in the Spring of this year. This album seems like it will be full of surprises as he has already mentioned that Solange Knowles and Janelle Monae amongst others will be making appearances. Certainly a big step for Of Montreal, a band that has always kept to themselves.
With the new direction for the recorded tracks, a new live route is also set to take place. Barnes wants to get rid of all pre-recorded background vocals from their recent live shows and round the OM lineup to 10 members on stage. With the glam going a bit out of the door this time around, the band is going for more of a 70’s Stevie Wonder vibe. What will the tracks sound like in the end? Well we’re going to have to wait until August or September for the Polyvinyl release to find out, but we’re sure it will be a good one!
