Get to Know Noise Pop 2010 Artist: John Vanderslice
With beginnings in the bay area alternative scene in the late 1990s as a part of legendary group MK Ultra, John Vanderslice is as deep rooted into the San Francisco as Noise Pop itself, if not more. John Vanderslice then went on to open Tiny Telephone recording studio in the Mission District – where Death Cab for Cutie, Spoon, and Deerhoof later spent time recording their albums.
Vanderslice has since gone on to release seven solo full length albums since 2000, the latest Romanian Names (Dead Oceans). In this album Vanderslice takes pieces of nineties alternative, folk, and indie pop and weaves it all into intricate songwriting and lyricism in a way that makes it seem effortless.
John Vanderslice will be sharing the stage with an exceptional group of musicians: Nurses, Honeycomb, and Conspiracy of Venus at a 21 + show Friday, February 26th at Swedish American Hall.
