SXSW Feeling a Little Blue, White, and Red This Year
The World Cup is happening this year, and if you can recall, France should have won the last one. Had Zidane not battle-rammed that dive-prone Italian, France’s chances in the resulting shootout would have been significantly improved; a truly discouraging end to anybody living outside of Italy. That being four years behind us, France is set for a comeback, but not exactly in the way you would think. This year at SXSW will feature a laundry list of over 30 French artists, and the French bureauexport will showcase some of the finest of the bunch at France Rocks Austin. The party will be on March 18 from noon to 6 pm at Klub Krucial (614 E. 6th St.), featuring Uffie, Soko, Brodinski, General Elektriks, Dead Sexy Inc., Cocoon (seen on the left), The Bewitched Hands On Top Of Our Heads and Shine. As much as I tried to avoid the stereotypes of croissants and pastries, the party will be serving fine champagne, cheese and various French delicacies.
Attendance is free and no badge is required so get your baudet over there. Some other notable acts, Papier Tigre, Sebastien Schuller, and Binary Audio Misfits, will hit the French Party at the Wave Rooftop on 408 E. 6th, March 19 from 8 pm to 1 am. That one requires a wristband and/or badge so prepare accordingly.
